This year we proudly celebrate our 25th anniversary.

On March 11th 1986 Josephine Delhaye-Hooijman and her husband Jan Hooijman opened Thai Restaurant Bangkok for the first time. Josephine loved cooking and had been taught Thai cuisine by her mother from an early age.

In the eighties Restaurant Bangkok was the second Thai restaurant to open its doors in Amsterdam. The first Thai restaurant, ‘Roeng Warie’, was owned by Josephine’s mother. Her family also owned Toko Thailand, from which her father delivered food on his moped.

In the nineties the restaurant and building were completely reconstructed and redesigned. The basement (now the lavatories) was created plus four floors with apartments. The architect of the adjacent Tuschinksi theatre was hired and during the construction the restaurant resided at another venue on the corner of the Stadhouderskade / Frans Halsstraat 2-4. Guests were transferred by ‘tuk tuk’ from the original restaurant.

Ten years ago the next generation of the Delhaye family took over the running of the Thai Restaurant Bangkok, with Jason and Jennefer Delhaye following in the footsteps of their aunt and uncle. A lot may have changed over the years, but the menu remains the same. And we still get a weekly supply of fresh herbs delivered from Thailand.

Our cook, the lovely Miss Poosaithong Duangduan (Poo), has been with us for over 18 years and was trained by Josephine. A couple of years ago our kitchen team was extended with Poo’s family members from Thailand and Poo has taught them how to prepare our famous fried rice, shrimp with garlic & pepper, chicken cashew and fish in tamarind sauce.

We would like to thank all our guests of the last 25 years and hope we can keep welcoming you in the coming years. We guarantee our delicious food and personal service will stay the same for another 25 years!

Enjoy your dinner.
